What occurred in that trial was the GOP leaning back, opening their mouth wide, and letting Donald Trump drop a big, soupy deuce right in there. They proceeded to present an unconvincing defense that had no bearing on the case since they decided before the trial that letting Trump get away with it was a preferable outcome. They then justified that by saying they couldn’t convict because, apparently, the 25th Amendment can’t be used as punishment- even though it’s the only tool they had!
They just admitted straight up, “Yes, President Trump could have done what he pleased without any fear of reprisal.”
What would it have taken, I wonder? Did they think about if the mob had found some of them? Those militia kooks would have grabbed ANY of them and demanded Pence and Pelosi come there before something bad happened. Would that have done it? Video of them smacking and punching a congressman, tying them up, probably urinating on them because those patriots would definitely do that. Maybe sneak them out through the crowd and take them, hostage, to some backwoods location and hold them for ransom!
Which one of them would look that person in the eye and say, “That wasn't what the President wanted, that was probably Antifa!”?
They didn’t convict because this was part of the exit strategy. They were in league with the rioters. They lived to preserve, protect and defend the presidency of Donald J Trump.
Mitch and company did his bidding in the end, they stood back and stood by and let him walk out the door without any accountability.
